12/18/2006: Sad to say that GTik was recently removed from Gnome and replace with a Python applet called Invest 
Actually if all of the applets are now python based it makes it easier for developers to contribute and for casual programmer/users to add their own functionality. So it is not bad at all, and we were not maintaining the little ticker anymore anyway, for me at least, partly do to the dificulty of building Gnome, which you had to do to work on the ticker.
